About Underbelly North Park

UnderBelly is our interpretation of a Japanese ramen-ya. Rooted in our local culture, which is reflected in the beer program, it ultimately serves as a tribute to a culture and food for which we have a deep appreciation and respect. This is a tribute to traditional Japanese ramen houses, specifically paying homage to the ramen gods of Tokyo.

Underbelly in North Park is one of those spots that feels like a full experience more than just a ramen shop. The space is open and social, with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating that gives it a lively, casual energy. It is very much a β€œshow up, order, and settle into the vibe” kind of place. The menu is centered around ramen, especially tonkotsu-style broths and richer, more indulgent bowls. The flavors are bold and comforting, with options like pork belly, short rib, and creative add-ins that make it feel a little more elevated than a standard ramen spot. It is also known for bao buns and small plates that round out the meal. The atmosphere is a big part of why people go. It is trendy, a little busy, and social without feeling overly formal. You will usually see a mix of locals and visitors, especially in the evenings. Some people love it for the vibe and hearty bowls, while others think it is more style-forward than traditional. If you go, it is best for a relaxed night out when you want good ramen, a lively setting, and a spot that feels very North Park in energy and crowd.

I’m a firm believer that people can make or break an experience, and the team here is the absolute gold standard. To be completely honest, the food wasn’t really my favoriteβ€”it didn't quite hit the mark for my personal tastesβ€”but I am still giving this a full five stars because of the incredible staff. From the second we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed. The workers are some of the kindest, most attentive, and friendliest people I’ve encountered in a long time. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy, and that kind of hospitality is increasingly rare. While the meal itself wasn't a standout for me, the service was world-class. If you value being treated with genuine care and a smile, this place is well worth the visit. A huge thank you to the hardworking crew.
